Recognized as one of the most important Italian cities, Pisa preserves artistic and architectural treasures of rare value. The focus of our Pisa Tuscany tour from Florence will be the beautiful Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa: the monuments surrounding it are famous all over the world and are the heart of the city. The imposing Leaning Tower, the Baptistery and the Cathedral of Pisa that stand on the green turf of the square offer a vision of rare beauty ... The guide will take you along one of the most interesting routes in Pisa to admire art, history and tradition! Ancient hub of city life in Pisa, the Cathedral Square is the main tourist destination of the Tuscan city. The harmony of its buildings, called 'miracles' by the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio, has created the eternal name of Square of Miracles. The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption dates from the second half of the 11th century and its construction is linked to the celebration of the power of the Maritime Republic of Pisa. In front of the cathedral you can admire the Baptistery, in Romanesque style with references to Gothic elements added in later periods in its construction; the Cemetery, which encloses the square to the north, is a monumental cemetery surrounded by a ring of marble; the Bell Tower or Leaning Tower is the undisputed symbol of Pisa and completes the square: the structure, tilted due to a failure of the underlying land, was built in stages between 1173 and the second half of the 14th century.
In the event that it is not possible to visit the Cathedral of Pisa, as the visit cannot be reserved in advance and therefore the availability is verified on the spot, the tour will include a visit to the beautiful Piazza dei Cavalieri, the custodian of the most beautiful buildings and churches of Grand Ducal Pisa, such as the palace of the Caravan, the church of St. Stefano of the Cavalieri (Knights), the palace of the Council of the Twelve, the palace of the Canonica and the Clock palace. At the centre of the square stands the Cosimo I statue, promoter of the redevelopment of the square, headed by the great Giorgio Vasari.
