The origin of the building dates back to the second half of the 1500s when Cosimo I de' Medici commissioned Giorgio Vasari the construction of a building to house the various offices of the city's magistrates. Later, his son Francis I designed the first 'gallery' of works of art on the top floor of the majestic building. The core of the modern collection of the Uffizi Gallery originates from the incredible art collections of the Medici, which have been enriched over the centuries by donations and bequests.

Today the Uffizi museum boasts one of the finest art collections in the world ... You can admire works by Giotto, Gentile da Fabriano, Masaccio, Giovanni Bellini, Mantegna, Raffaello, Veronese, Giorgione, Tintoretto, Canaletto, Francesco Guardi, Tiepolo, Caravaggio. Masterpieces like the double portrait of the Dukes of Urbino painted by Piero della Francesca, 'the Birth of Venus' and 'La Primavera' by Botticelli, 'l' Annunciation' and' the Adoration of the Magi' by Leonardo Da Vinci, the 'Tondo Doni' by Michelangelo', the ‘Venus of Urbino' by Titian, ...

Space is also reserved to the German Renaissance by Albrecht Dürer and Lukas Cranach, the Spaniards Velázquez, Goya, El Greco, Rembrandt and Flemish painting of Rubens and van Dyck.

Visit the Uffizi Gallery in Florence also to enjoy the splendid Arno Hall, where you can see splendid masterpieces of ancient statuary and spectacular views of the Ponte Vecchio and the river; the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints - among the largest in the world, containing about 150,000 works; the Contini Bonacossi Collection – with Della Robbia pottery, furniture, ancient majolica, Tuscan sculptures and paintings.
