In addition to David, the section of the Academia in Florence of Michelangelo also houses the four male nudes called 'Prisons', the Palestrina Pietà and St. Matthew.

The famous David sculpture is not the only work by Michelangelo in Florence. The Academy also hosts many other masterpieces. You will discover a fascinating guided tour of artists and masterpieces from the 13th to the 19th century.

The collection of the Accademia Gallery in Florence features many works of Florentine paintings of the 14th century - including splendid altarpieces with gold background coming from the main churches and convents of Florence; paintings by Giotto and his followers, as well as earlier and more contemporary works; examples of Florentine painting of the 15th and 16th centuries - Paolo Uccello, Perugino, Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Filippino Lippi; works of international Gothic and a collection of Russian icons.

The ticket for the Accademia Gallery in Florence also includes: the Musical Instruments Museum, which houses fascinating collections of the Medici and Lorraine Grand Dukes. Here you can admire ancient musical instruments including precious Stradivarius violins, several curiosities, such as the harpsichord of Bartolomeo Cristofori, inventor of the piano, and paintings that show the importance of musical culture at the time of the Grand Dukes. The Bartolini Plaster Cast Gallery which shows many plaster casts of Lorenzo Bartolini and Luigi Pampaloni, paintings and sculptures by artists of the 19th century, is linked to the Academy of Fine Arts.

During the Accademia Gallery tour, the guide will focus on artists and major works; at the end you can stay in the museum until closing time and end the visit as you wish.

A visit to the city of Florence must include one of its most precious treasures, the sculpture of David: in Florence, the Accademia Gallery Florence tour will allow you to admire Michelangelo sculptures and other great masterpieces in a harmonious fusion of styles and eras.

Whether you are an art buff or not, you will appreciate seeing the famous David sculpture by Michelangelo. The gallery also displays other historical art that is a must see in Florence. The tour was really good and not too expensive.

'David'

Tour
Guided visit to the Accademia Gallery in Florence

If you have time to see only attraction in Florence I suggest that you do not miss Michelangelo's David at L'Academia. One can read about David for hours or see countless pictures, but until you see the actual sculpture you can't appreciate the overwhelming presence and perfection of Michelangelo's talent and inspiration. David is nothing short of breathtaking!

'David, Beautiful sculpture'

Tour
Guided visit to the Accademia Gallery in Florence

I'm very glad to have seen this magnificent sculpture, but that and another large sculpture room was the extent of my interest, as I am not enchanted with medieval or Renaissance art. However the guide was competent and made the tour enjoyable.
