What are the things to do in Florence for kids? The planned itinerary starts from Piazza San Marco, dominated by the facade of the church and surrounded by imposing and elegant buildings. In the centre of the square there is a small green space with trees, housing a bronze statue of General Manfredo Fanti, made in 1873 by the sculptor Clemente Papi. The whole area is constantly packed with pigeons ... we are certain that the little ones will not resist trying to catch one!

Our tour of Florence Italy with kids will continue through the worshipping centre of the city, Piazza Duomo and Piazza San Giovanni, where you will see some architectural masterpieces: the Church of Santa Maria del Fiore, a splendid example of Gothic style and symbol of the city; Giotto's Bell Tower, about 85 meters high and built with green, white and red marble; Brunelleschi Dome and its inside decorated with frescoes by Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari depicting scenes of the Last Judgment. Last, but not least, the Baptistery of Saint John, with its distinctive octagonal base: on three of the eight sides, there are three large doors, famous for their beautiful decorations. You will soon discover that our Florence guided tour for children is really interesting for adults too!

The next stop will be Piazza della Signoria, the political heart of the city since time immemorial. It houses Palazzo Vecchio, now the Town Hall and the famous Loggia dei Lanzi, a small open-air gallery where important sculptures such as Perseus with the head of Medusa by Cellini and The Rape of the Sabines by Giambologna.

In the ending part of our Florence tour for kids, the guide will take you to the most famous bridge in the city, Ponte Vecchio, from which a splendid view of the River Arno can be enjoyed. On top of the numerous goldsmith shops located on either side is the Vasari Corridor, exhibiting an important collection of self-portraits of great artists such as Rembrandt, Delacroix and Velasquez.

The last leg of our guided tour for children in Florence will cover the lively and aptly named Oltrarno district, located on the left side of the River Arno. Besides housing major monuments, museums and gardens – such as Pitti Palace, the Basilica di Santo Spirito and the Boboli Gardens - in this area there are numerous artisan, restorer and goldsmith workshops, contributing to keeping alive the 'more authentic spirit' of the city.
