Preparations are underway for the new edition of the popular Lucca Comics and Games Festival and its varied program. During the 'Lucca Comics 2015' dates - from 29 October to 1 November - the historic town of Lucca will turn into a magical realm inhabited by strange characters: you can watch fights between legendary samurai, have your photograph taken with Hallo Kitty, the cute Lupin, the protagonists of the most popular cartoon characters or see elves and fairies chasing and play jokes. It is not a dream ... it is the incredible atmosphere offered by the Lucca Comics and Games Festival 2015 and the many events organized for the occasion.
But what is the Lucca Comics and Games Festival and how did it begin? Since 1995 it has been considered one of the most prestigious festivals of Comics for games, cinema and illustrations, recognised at an internationally level. The Lucca Comics and Games Festival attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world every year. Over the years the fair Lucca Comics has become the most important event of its kind in Europe, while, globally, occupies the third place, surpassed only by the famous Comitek Tokyo and from Comic-On in San Diego, California.
In fact, the origins of the Lucca Comics and Games Festival date back to 1966, when the Tuscan city hosted the International Exhibition of Comics: the experience turned out very positive, a cultural association started out with a private nature which for years took care of organizing the event which gained an incredible success year after year.
1990 was a momentous year for the show because it was transformed from a free public event to a charged one with the obligation to purchase a ticket. An area was introduced for role-playing games, board, card and video games: hence the decision to change the name of the event that, in 1995, became 'Lucca Comics and Games Festival', still in use today.
The Lucca Comics and Games Festival continues to expand its horizons with new initiatives and events: exhibitions, competitions, tournaments, role playing games, such as cosplay - the art of interpreting a known character wearing a costume and imitating the behaviour of the characters - workshops, meetings and discussions with authors, that have greatly enriched the program of the Lucca Comics, making the event even more magical and spectacular.
There are great expectations for the Lucca Comics 2015: dates and Lucca Comics 2015 program have now been disclosed and this year the festival promises to be as exciting as ever and therefore should not be missed! '.... Si, viaggiare!' is the title of the Lucca Comics 2015 edition, which metaphorically sees the Festival as the departure point for the most imaginative journeys designed by our imagination.
As for the comics section, the guests of Lucca Comics 2015are nothing short of extraordinary. Directly from the land of the Rising Sun, the three authors considered the true and proper legends of comics eastern scene: Kamui Fujiwara, Yasuhiro Nightow and Tsutomu Nihei will meet their fans, while the talented Italian cartoonists Marco Checchetto and Stefano Vietto present 'Zero Life', the new creation by Panini.
In the Lucca Comics 2015 program there will be so many guests: the queen couple of American comics Stuart and Kathryn Immonen, Richard McGuire - author of the exhibition at the Doge's Palace - Leo Ortolani, Paul Renaud, Stan Sakai and Tuono Pettinato who will delight the public explaining their work and signing autographs.
At the Comics Lucca 2015 Festival the events organized on the occasion of the comics festival Italy 2015 will range from music to photography, from art to cinema and parades to cosplay competitions. This year a large space will be devoted to exhibitions: at the Ingellis Hall an interesting exhibition of the great Michael Menzel will be held, designer of famous board games and author of the game 'Legends of Andor'.
There is also a great exhibition dedicated to the great Karl Kopinski, offering an extraordinary journey through the fantastic worlds of his works. Considered one of the most important masters of illustration, Kopinski has achieved tremendous success in the field of portraiture thanks to its oil paintings dedicated to the great cycling champions such as Coppi, Anquetil, Bartali and Pantani. In the exhibition have a look at the special poster on the Lucca Comics 2015 made by the great English designer, an intriguing mix of classic posters of the 20th century and the first page of the Domenica del Corriere.
Protagonist of the fascinating shows' Tuonèide' hosted by the Doge's Palace is Andrea Paggiaro, aka Thunder Pettinato, awarded in 2014 as Best Unique Authour in the Guinigi Grand Prix, who will present at Lucca Comics 2015 edition, some of his most famous works such as 'Little body' and' Nevermind'.
Also noteworthy, at the Lucca Comics and Games Festival is the legendary army created by Bonvi: the famous Sturmtruppen returns to Doge's Palace, the same place where they had made their first appearance in 1968. 'ACH! Sturmtruppen of Bonvi 'offers the first 50 original strip of the saga of' Soldaten', provocative and ironic anti-military, satire a slap to the obtuseness of power.
The last exhibition at Lucca Comics 2015 is 'Richard McGuire: Time, Space, Man', dedicated to one of the most popular authors of graphic arts of the American landscape and built with the collaboration of Galerie Martel in Paris. Main subject of the exhibition will 'Here', the famous comic strip that takes the reader to a deeper reflection on constant passage of time, on man and the gaze which he puts on the universe.
