THE LOCATIONS OF JAZZ&WINE IN MONTALCINO

All the concerts, with a start at 21.00, will be hosted in beautiful locations from an architectural point of view but that are also linked to the history of this area.

  • MONTALCINO BANFI CASTLE
The Castello di Banfi in Montalcino, originally known as Poggio alle Mura Castle, is located in a strategic point between Siena and Grosseto. It developed mainly between the 9th and 13th centuries, although its origins seem to date back to Etruscan times. The history of this historic building is linked above all to the Placidi counts who owned it until 1959 when Poggio alle Mura Castle was acquired by Mr. Mastropaolo, a South American business man. In 1983, it was purchased by Banfi Winery, from where its current name derives, and it is thanks to the owners, the Mariani family, that restoration works were undertaken to bring it back to its former glory. In addition to hosting some of the Montalcino jazz concerts, it hosts various events throughout the year and has several luxurious rooms and suites available.

  • MONTALCINO FORTRESS
The location where most of the events will take place in Montalcino during Jazz and Wine 2019 is the Fortress which was built starting from 1361. The city walls with the central tower and the smaller ones testify to its defensive function. It has a particular pentagon shape and inside it is also a small chapel. Once again, the present excellent state of conservation is to be attributed to an important restoration effort that began in the 1980s.

What more could you want than a nice table under the stars, a few glasses of excellent wine, concerts with great musicians, the elegant atmosphere of jazz in the setting of historical locations... It sounds like a dream, but it's fantastically true: it's Jazz&Wine Montalcino 2019! A great chance to come to Tuscany and visit the many charming villages that are near Montalcino: Pienza, Montepulciano, San Quirico and Bagno Vignoni, to name a few.
