Born in 1930, this musical event, the only one to be entirely dedicated to the great Tuscan composer, over the years has become one of the most acclaimed events by lovers of opera who every year come from all over Italy to enjoy the impressive show at Teatro dei Quattromila, on the shore of Lake Massaciuccoli.

FESTIVAL PUCCINI PROGRAM 2019

  • Opening Concert - 6 July 2019
    The Puccini Opera Festival 2019 in Torre del Lago opens with a very special evening during which the soprano Katia Ricciarelli will celebrate the 50th anniversary of her successful and world-acclaimed career. Katia Ricciarelli at the Festival Puccini will bring to the stage of Torre del Lago the friends and companions of her life dedicated to art.

  • La Fanciulla del West – July 12 and 26
    The opera season of the Puccini Festival in Italy in 2019 at Torre del Lago will kick off with a new production of Puccini’s La ragazza del West, an opera staged for the first time in 1910 in New York. The story is set among California’s miners and sees among the protagonists Minnie who runs a tavern, the sheriff and Dick, the man she falls in love with but who turns out to be a bandit and murderer. After various vicissitudes there is a happy ending when Dick and Minnie finally live together happily ever after. Puccini's Girls of the West staged at the Gran Teatro in Torre del Lago will be directed by the orchestra conductor Alberto Veronesi while singers will include Tamar Iveri (Minnie), Hovahnnes Ayvayzan and Alberto Mastromarino. The modern set was designed by sculptor Franco Adami.

  • Turandot – July 13, 19 and August 17
    Covering the protagonist role of the Giaccomo Puccini’s Turandot at the Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago in 2019 will be soprano Veronica Dzhioeva, who performed in this role in 2009, at the beginning of her career after graduating from the prestigious St. Petersburg Conservatory. Since then she has performed the most important works of Puccini but also of other authors. In Torre del Lago Turandot will this year be directed by Giandomenico Vaccari. Zoran Todorovic will play the prince, as the princess there will be Lubov Stuchevskaya while Valeria Sepe and Claire Coolen will take it in turn to play Liù. The Tatar king Timur will be played by George Andguladze. Marcello Mottadelli will direct the fantastic cast of Turandot at the Puccini Festival.

  • La Bohème – July 20, August 3-10
    Boheme at Torre del Lago that you will see and listen to during the Festival Puccini 2019 is directed by Alfonso Signorini, a well-known TV figure but also a passionate melomaniac. The famous soprano Angela Gheroghiou will perform as Mimi, also played by He Hui in repeats, another soprano who has performed on the greatest theaters in the world. Jean Francois Borras, Angelo Fiore, Ivana Canovic, Micaela Sarah D'Alessandro, Nikola Mijalovic and Pierluigi Dilengite will also be part of the cast of this beautiful edition of the Puccini Festival Boheme.

  • Madama Butterfly – July 27, August 12 and 23
    Madama Butterfly at Torre del Lago and its fantastic oriental atmosphere is another unmissable event of the 2019 program of the 65th Puccini Festival. As Cho Cho San there will be soprano Hiromi Omura who will delight the audience with unique and intense emotions combined with a truly splendid voice and Karine Babajavyan who will play on August 23. The Puccini Festival in 2019 in Italy will stage a co-production with the Royal Opera de Wallonie in Liège, Belgium, in which Cho Cho San story is set in the post-war period. Madama Butterfly at Torre del Lago will be conducted by Alberto Veronesi orchestra director on July 27, while repeats on August 12 and 23 the cast will be under the direction of Belgian Nir Kabaretti.

  • Tosca – August 11, 18 and 24
    Tosca at Puccini Festival during the edition of Torre del Lago 2019 is a co-production with the Georgia-Tblisi Theater, which last year was a guest at the festival, under the direction of Dieter Kaegi. Hirofumi Yoshida will direct a cast with top artists: Maria Guleghina and Lacrimiora Cristescu as Tosca, Jose ’Cura and Hovhanes Ayzavyan as Cavaradossi, Carlos Alaguer and Stefan Ignat as Baron Scarpia.

  • Le Villi - August 16
    Puccini’s Le Villi is the first opera composed by the great Maestro. At the Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago 2019 it will be presented in a production resulting from the collaboration with MUPA in Budapest, a city with which the composer had a strong bond. The story is inspired by Nordic legends, ruthless ultramundane creatures, who avenge girls who died for love by seducing the young men and dragging them into the depths of the sea. Keri-Lynn Wilson will be on the conductor podium while Csaba Kael is in charge of the direction. Singers include: Dafne Tian Hui, Carlo Ventre and Raffaele Raffio.

So, have you taken note of everything? All you have to do now is contact the ticket office of the 2019 Puccini Festival and grab a seat in the fantastic theatre. And you won’t even have to worry about transport: reaching the Puccini Festival is easy, there are shuttle buses that leave from all the major beach resorts in the area and upon request also from Lucca. Surely the most suggestive and romantic solution, the one that will take you immediately in the magic of the evening is to arrive by boat.
