Now in its 7th edition, the Cortona Mix Festival, which will take place from July 18th to 22nd, is set to meet the success of previous years. Behind the numbers of its crowds lies a great formula for which the festival is respected. During the Cortona Mix Festival 2018, the enchanting village in the heart of Tuscany will be brought to life by a series of events that mix different artistic languages: music, theater and literature. All in wonderful locations such as Piazza Signorelli, the Teatro Signorelli, the Sant'Agostino Center and the Fortezza del Girifalco which, thanks to the lineup of events, will become even more fascinating. Let's get to the heart of the Cortona Mix Festival 2018 program!

THEME CORTONA MIX FESTIVAL 2018. 'Words are important' is the theme that the Cortona Cultura Mix Festival Committee (Gruppo Feltrinelli, Tuscany Orchestra, Accademia degli Arditi and Officine della Cultura) has chosen for this year's edition. Words, in fact, permeate our whole life: they build our thoughts, our real and virtual interaction, the pages of a book, the text of a song, the dialogues of a film or of a theatre pièce. This will be the approach of the guests of the Cortona Mix festival 2018: they will offer their personal contribution through their point of view and according to their artistic experiences.

CORTONA MIX FESTIVAL PROGRAM 2018. A rich, interesting and stimulating line-up of interventions will animate the literary program. Goffredo Fofi will kick off on Wednesday 18th July, inspired by the essay 'words are like stones' by Carlo Levi. Fofi, essayist, activist, journalist and critic is definitely one of the most authoritative voices in the national cultural scene. During his meeting he will propose a stimulating reflection on the theme of the event. On the same day you can also attend the 'improvisation to the rhythm of Jazz' that Laura Morante will stage in Cortona. The actress, one of the most loved in our cinema, will give a performance that will spring from the fruitful synergy between words and music. Thursday 19th July at the Cortona Mix Festival meetings will continue with Pietro Grossi. The musician began his career as a cellist but later became one of the pioneers of electronic music and computer music. Pietro Grossi in Cortona will also focus his performance on the relationship between music and words. On the same day you can attend one of the most interesting Cortona Mix festival readings: Valerio Magrelli, a multifaceted character (poet, writer, translator and literary and academic critic) who will reflect on the fascinating theme of giving 'power to poetry'. Still on July 19th will be the turn of the Pulitzer Prize 2018 for the narrative Andrew Sean Greer, in Cortona one of the most anticipated guests. The writer will be the protagonist of a meeting that will investigate at 360 degrees the characteristics of the word and its ability to unite languages, countries and cultures. On Friday, 20th July at the Cortona Festival 2018 journalist and essayist Sergio Rizzo will try to shed light on one of the most difficult financial investigations of the last twenty years, while the following day, Saturday, 21st July, Annalena Benini, journalist and writer, will give voice to the stories of those who have made writing their true and unique reason for living.

MUSIC EVENTS AT THE CORTONA MIX FESTIVAL 2018. First concert up is on July 18th, with Little Steven’s Cortona concert, the guitarist of the E Street Band, Bruce Springsteen’s band who will perform with his Disciples of Soul. The eclectic artist, director of the highly acclaimed radio program Little Steven's Underground Garage, also played the role of Tony Soprano's advisor in the famous fiction story. In short, Little Steven’s Italy concert promises a fun evening of rock! Cortona Summer 2018’s musical program also includes the Orchestra della Toscana conducted by the American composer Timothy Brock. The Florentine chamber orchestra, composed of 45 people, will play 'Rhapsody in Blue' by George Gershwin and some songs from the soundtrack of 'West Side Story'. Next up Saturday, 21st July with the concert-cabaret of Nino Frassica, one of the most famous faces of Italian television. As usual for Nino Frassica, in Cortona the comedian will offer the public moments of thoughtless laughter seasoned by the good music of the Los Plaggers Band, made up of 6 formidable musicians. The entertaining show will unfold through almost one hundred songs reviewed and corrected in Frassica’s syle. Sunday, 22nd July is the turn of Gino Paoli’s Cortona concert, a man who needs no introduction. In Cortona he will perform with the Ti(o) Kàla reinterpreting some of the most beloved concerts of his prolific music repertoire.
