Cortona Events is pleased to present an unmissable date with culture: from July 30 to August 7, the historic center, squares and theaters in the picturesque Tuscan village, will host Cortona Mix Festival 2016, an explosive blend of arts which, every year, involves and excites thousands of visitors from all over Italy.

Now in its 5th edition, the Cortona mix festival 2016 program offers many events ranging from music to literature, cinema and drama, with many surprises and welcome guests, all in an enchanting setting. The town of Cortona (Arezzo) is a medieval village located in the far east of Tuscany: its narrow cobbled streets abound with history and are surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. Try to imagine a jazz concert or a theatre show within its floodlit walls...

What does the Cortona mix festival program 2016 offer? As for classical music, we cannot forget to mention the great Orchestra della Toscana, that will perform 'Greetings from Vienna' in Piazza Signorelli on July 30th: a collection of the most beautiful dances and the best waltzes of Strauss, Kàlmàn, Suppè, and Arditi. The conductor will be master Peter Guth... who will simultaneously play the violin!
'ORT' will also perform on Wednesday 3rd August, directed by the Japanese conductor Eiji Oue who, together with the young Serbian violinist Nemanja Radulovic, will play Tchaikovsky's moving melodies.

Instead, on Monday 1st August, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino will play something rather different: the concerts of this folk band - founded in 1975 by the writer Rina Durante and nowadays worldwide renowned - always manage to lift the spirits of those who listen. Their modern 'pizzica tarantata', characterized by the rhythm of the tambourine, will take you straight to the heart of Salento ... trust us, it will be impossible to stand still!

Still concerning music events in Cortona, the Cortona Festival 2016 will also see the famous progressive rock band Jethro Tull perform, led by the great frontman - and founder of the band - Ian Anderson. Since 1967, the year of their establishment, Jethro Tull have sold more than 60 million records worldwide and more than 2,500 concerts of their world tours. The British band, still active and much followed, will end the Cortona Festival 2016 with an energetic performance in Piazza Signorelli on Sunday 7th August at 9.30pm, comprising of folk, blues and acoustic tunes. On top of the large space dedicated to music, the Cortona mix festival 2016 program offers many other interesting meetings such as films and documentaries, reading-concerts such as 'Il Mondo sia lodato' by Franco Marcoaldi and Ivano Battiston - played with the accordion - theatre shows, meetings, debates and yoga and relaxation sessions.

And now it's time for the great novelty of the Cortona Festival 2016: the HackCortona, scheduled for Saturday 6th August at 12am! If you are wondering what it is, here's the answer: a Hackathon is a contest between programmers, often divided into teams, which consists of developing a website, an app or any other product that relates to technology. Apart from the competitive side, each Hackathon is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the new trends in this sector and to share ideas and projects with people who share the same passion.
This exciting initiative is becoming popular all around the world, especially in the academic or business fields: Hackcortona is the first Italian competition that takes place outside the university circle, in a unique setting such as that of the Cortona Festival 2016. The aim is to create a bridge between the writing of the past, preserved until the present time thanks to the many Etruscan artifacts (see the recent exhibition at the MAEC entitled 'Etruscans-Masters of writing') and the writing of the future, namely code and software development.

But this is not all of the events in Cortona, summer 201! For the entire duration of the festival there will be organized visits to local wineries and other interesting initiatives associated with the Etruscan Academy Museum and the City of Cortona. The streets of the village will be filled with the jolly tunes played by the 'Marching Band', invited to participate in the event and you can indulge in the thousands of books and DVDs on display at the Feltrinelli Bookshop, a wonderful library open to the public until mid-August.
